Meals for every child

Meals for every child
Posted on 09/13/2020
September 14, 2020 - UPDATE - Beginning on Monday, September 21, curbside meal pick up will be available on Mondays (2 days of meals) and Wednesdays (3 days of meals), for a total of five meals per week, for any children between the ages of 1 and 18. A breakfast and lunch option will be offered for each day of meals. Chocolate and white milk are included.

Please sign up using this form or call Central Office at 581-3773 for meal curbside pick up. Per USDA guidelines, the child(ren) is required to be present at meal pick up. Meals will not be served to someone without the child(ren) present. Families will only need to sign up once and will remain on the curbside list until you inform the school district otherwise.

Curbside meal pick up locations as follows on Mondays and Wednesdays between 9-9:30 a.m.
**Mexico High Circle Drive
**Mexico Middle back entrance/parent drop off area

Children DO NOT need to be enrolled in Mexico Public Schools to receive meals, but they will have to be present at the time of pick up.

Meals will be served until December 2020 or until the USDA funds are depleted. If school is not in session, the meals will not be served, but the district will likely rearrange that week's schedule for pick up availability.

September 13, 2020 - As you may remember, our district was able to serve well over 38,000 meals to our students when the school district shut down in mid-March. This was due to a USDA waiver called the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), a program our district uses during summer school. We were thankful for the community response and partnership with the YMCA to continue to feed children in our community.

Due to COVID-19, the USDA has offered a waiver to extend SFSP for a limited period of time in 2020. Effective immediately, school meals will be available free of charge for all students in PreKindergarten through 12th grade. We are thankful to the USDA for this waiver that will feed children ages 18 and under for free!

If your student is in grades PreK-8, he/she was already participating in the Community Eligibility Provision meals at no charge. However, if you have a high school student, the meals will also now be free of charge effective immediately. Families who have previously participated in free and reduced meals should still fill out the meal application form available at each building as this no-cost meal benefit could end at any time.

Menus are available and easily accessible through the FREE  Mexico School District app available in Google Play and the App Store. You can also view them online through mexicoschools.net → For parents & students → Food Services.

We are happy to be able to offer these meals free of charge to our students for as long as the benefit lasts. Thank you for your support during this unusual school year!
