2022-2023 School Year is Right Around the Corner
By: Christine Harper

Right now, the students are screaming, “NO!” and the parents are yelling, “WooHoo!”  Although hard to believe, the 2022-2023 school year starts in a month on August 24th.  The custodians have been deep cleaning the buildings; the technology department has been installing new computers and Promethean boards; the maintenance crew has been repairing, installing, and replacing things; administrators have been working on schedules and hiring and all things building related to get ready for the new school year.  So many behind-the-scenes things going on to help get the 2022-2023 school year off to a great start.

One of the most important weeks of the summer is the week of registration.

  • This year, online registration is Monday, August 1st–Tuesday, August 9th.  It will open at 7:30am on the 1st and close at 4:30pm on the 9th.
  • Even if your kiddo attended Mexico Public Schools last year, parents/guardians still need to do online registration.
  • If you miss online registration, you can contact your child’s school to fill out paperwork.
  • If you register after August 12th, your student may not be eligible for transportation services on the first day of school.  Creating bus routes and transportation lists for close to 1000 students is a time-consuming process, so it’s important you get your child registered early.
  • If you need a computer to do online registration, please report to the main office of your child’s school between 7:30-3:30, August 1st-9th.
  • ELL translation will be available August 3 & 4 from 7:30-4:00 @ Hawthorne Elementary.
  • Class assignments and schedules will be available online for parents at 4:00pm on August 12th.
  • If you are planning to homeschool your child this year, please contact Kris Fecht at [email protected]

School supply lists have been delivered to local stores and can also be found under the Parents & Students tab on the district’s website (mexicoschools.net).

If your student is planning on playing MMS or MHS sports, they will need a physical before they can start practicing.

Make sure your immunizations are up-to-date.

For students in grades 9-12, they will no longer get free breakfasts and lunches.  Parents can fill out a Free/Reduced Meal Application (located on the district website under the For Parents & Students tab, and then click on Food Service).  Students in Pre-K-8 are still free.

Getting ready for a new school year is a huge task with many moving parts.  It’s important that everyone is doing their part to kick off the new school year smoothly.
