July 8, 2020 - The Mexico School District is excited to share that Mrs. Katie Lehnen has been named the Assistant Principal at Hawthorne Elementary. Mrs. Lehnen has been with our district for 13 years and transitions from preschool teacher to assistant principal. Mrs. Lehnen is excited for the opportunity to work with and learn from the amazing students, families, teachers, and staff at Hawthorne Elementary.

Mrs. Lehnen holds a Bachelor’s in Science in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s in Education in PK-12 Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis both from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has taught prekindergarten through first grade. During her tenure with Mexico 59, she has served as the chairperson for the District Professional Development Committee, a building PBiS coach, a mentor teacher, a student-council sponsor, an after-school tutor, an assistant softball coach, and member of many other district and building committees.

Mrs. Lehnen has been married to her high school sweetheart, Jacob, for 13 years. Jacob is the Operations Manager at Gold Crest Distributing in Mexico. They have two children: Vinton, 9, and Amelia, 6. Mrs. Lehnen enjoys singing, reading, and crafting with her Cricut. She loves being outdoors and exploring with her family, but, if she’s indoors, you may find her playing video games with her husband! Jacob and Katie also spend much of their family time taking Vinton and Amelia to their activities: soccer, Boy Scouts, play practice, and performances at Presser Performing Arts, piano, and voice. The family lives in a country home north of town with their two dogs, Piper and Luna; one cat, Moe; four chickens, Nugget, Cluck, Shirleen, and Oreo; and a tortoise named Linkin.

Welcome to Hawthorne, Mrs. Lehnen!
