What Does Community Mean to You?
By: Rebecca Moppin, MHS College & Career Advisor

Community. What does it mean to you? At MHS, it’s teamwork. It’s dedication. It’s our community. It’s Mexico. Community goes beyond the simple concept of a group of people working towards a common goal. We understand that the future, the health and wellbeing of our community relies on the readiness of our children. The readiness to face whatever challenges this World brings in their lifetime. Challenges that they aren’t aware of yet, but they need to be prepared for. We are blessed to live in a community that recognizes the importance of coming together to create a strong future through our youth.

Through the eyes of MHS, we see it in the stands with the support of our athletics. We hear it in the cheers, we feel it through the energy. We see it in the classrooms through A+ Grants, guest speakers, and donations for supplies. Our community supports through the needs of Bright Futures, our Lunch Buddies and our mentors. MHS sees it. We feel it. We hear it. Mexico believes in our youth, their future, and their impact on other lives.

MHS recently hosted over 45 employers, agencies and organizations in the 5th Annual Find Your Path event offering up a glimpse into each different career path for over 800 students. That’s 45 booths invested in something bigger than themselves. Our community understands the future of Mexico is within the walls of our schools, and it’s vibrating with excitement.

Last year, our senior class earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships, many of those dollars from local scholarships from our community. This year, they will do it again and then some. That effort, that success does not happen overnight. It’s an investment in our tomorrow, today.

Community. What does it mean to you? It’s teamwork. It’s dedication. It’s OUR community. It’s Mexico.
