Bulldogs participate in annual Tyronn Lue Day of Service

October 17, 2025 – Our Bulldogs participated in various service activities around the community for Tyronn Lue Day of Service! The Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the ninth annual service day, honoring Mexico native and Los Angeles Clippers Head Coach Tyronn Lue.
Here’s a highlight from each building! More photos are available on the Chamber of Commerce Facebook page!
McMillan Early Learning Center. Our kindergarteners are giving back in a big way! As part of the Tyronn Lue Day of Service, Ms. Davolt’s class, along with all of kindergarten, is decorating flower pots for residents at the Missouri Veterans Home.
McMillan has a long-standing relationship with the Veterans Home, and this special project is a way for our youngest learners to show gratitude while reviewing what they’ve learned about America and our veterans. The classes will deliver their decorated pots after school on the 17th!
Hawthorne Elementary. Mrs. Curtis’ third graders teamed up with middle school students for a community clean-up at the high school football field!
This experience teaches our younger Bulldogs about responsibility, teamwork, and caring for the environment while giving them the chance to learn from their older peers. Working side-by-side builds connection, encourages positive role models, and reminds students that even small acts of service make a big difference — especially when they’re done together (with a little fun along the way)!
Mrs. Curtis shared, “Today helped students builds a stronger sense of community and develop empathy through acts of service. It’s also a great chance for students to be active outdoors while contributing to a shared goal!”
Eugene Field. Today, our students are giving back to the community in many ways, including supporting Pet Pals of Audrain County! Mrs. Warmbrodt’s fifth graders at Eugene Field chose a service project to support Pet Pals because it’s often an overlooked nonprofit, yet it does incredible work helping local animals find safe, loving homes. They collected supplies to show appreciation for the volunteers whose work doesn’t go unnoticed.
Mrs. Warmbrodt shared, “Were hoping the children will understand that it takes a village for a community to thrive. Whether that be volunteering a home for an animal, or providing supplies, no matter how small, can affect our community in a positive way.”
Mexico Middle School. Miss Nichols’ middle school social studies class put learning into action by making dog tug toys for the City of Mexico Animal Shelter!
This hands-on project gave students a fun way to support a local organization while learning about empathy, civic responsibility, and the importance of community service. Each toy was made with care, a small act that shows how even simple gestures can make a big difference. By giving their time and creativity, these students are helping our four-legged friends feel a little more comforted while they wait for their forever homes!
Mexico High School. Our Mexico High School students spent Tyronn Lue Day of Service giving back to our future Bulldogs! Students created Kindergarten Readiness Kits filled with learning tools and fun activities to help incoming kindergartners build early skills and confidence before their first big day of school.
This project not only supports our youngest learners but also reminds our high school students how service can strengthen the entire community, connecting one generation of Bulldogs to the next.
Mexico Education Center. Students from MEC shared cookies with educators, police officers, firefighters, and city workers; they saw how small acts of kindness can make a big impact! Director Mark Holman shared, “Our students are learning that everyone can make a difference, no matter their age or background. Students see themselves as positive leaders in our hometown.”
Inspired by Coach Tyronn Lue’s Commitment to Community initiative, the students proudly represented what service looks like, giving back, building relationships, and showing that everyone can make a difference.
Hart Career Center. Our agriculture students organized a food collection drive for The Help Center Inc.
This project connected perfectly with what ag education is all about: community, hard work, and helping others. Students learned how their efforts can make a real difference for families in need, while strengthening their understanding of local food systems and the importance of giving back. By collecting and donating food, these students showed what it means to serve with purpose!
Thanks to the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce for organizing a great event!
