MHS Students Explore Construction Careers at Build My Future

October 16, 2025 – Bulldog students visited the annual Build My Future event, a one-day, hands-on construction career showcase held at the Jefferson City Jaycees Fairgrounds.
Sponsored by the Home Builders Association of Central Missouri, the event gives students an opportunity to explore real-world careers in the construction and industrial trades. Participants engaged with professionals and learned about career pathways in carpentry, concrete and asphalt, heavy equipment operation, surveying, and welding.
Through interactive exhibits and demonstrations, MHS and Mexico Education Center students gained valuable insight into the wide variety of opportunities available in the skilled trades, helping them connect what they learn in the classroom to future careers after graduation.
George is a freshman student at MHS. He participated in the hands-on booths; he made a toolbox and won a prize at another. “It was great to have the workers out here to show us what it’s like.”
“Events like Build My Future help our students see firsthand the exciting, high-demand jobs available right here in Missouri,” shared Rebecca Moppin, MHS College & Career Advisor. “The students see how they can tailor their high school schedule to follow a field of study they’ll enjoy.”
