November 28, 2025 – The Mexico School District will open candidate filing for the April 7, 2026 Board of Education election on December 9 through December 30. Three seats are on the ballot, currently held by Lennette Brown, Jessica Ekern, and Mathew Pilger. 

Candidates will appear on the ballot in the order in which they file.

Qualified community members interested in serving on the Board are encouraged to file at the Mexico School District Central Office, 2101 Lakeview Road, Mexico, MO 65265. Individuals should ask for Shelby Gaug, Secretary to the Board of Education, or call 573-581-3773 ext. 7423 for more information.

Filing Dates and Times

• Opening Day: December 9, 2025, from 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
• Regular Filing: Weekdays, December 10–29, from 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
• Final Filing Day: December 30, 2025
  • Filing hours: 3:30 PM–5:00 PM
  • Candidates filing on the last day are encouraged to arrive by 4:30 PM to allow time for document review and completion of the candidacy declaration.
     

Filing will not occur when Central Office is closed due to inclement weather or health-related concerns. No filing will take place on: December 24, 2025, December 25, 2025, and December 26, 2025.

To qualify for election to the Mexico Board of Education, a candidate must be:

• A U.S. citizen
• A resident taxpayer of the Mexico School District
• A resident of Missouri and the district for at least one year
• At least 24 years of age
   

Candidates must also:

• Be current on all state and local taxes
• Have no felony convictions under Missouri or federal law
• Not be required to register as a sex offender
• Have filed all required campaign finance documents for any previous campaigns
