2026-27 District Calendar approved by board

March 2, 2026 - The Mexico Public Schools 2026-27 school year will look almost identical to this year. At the February regular session meeting, the Board of Education approved the district’s recommended calendar for the upcoming year.
The year accounts for the state law requirements of 169 days, including 1,044 hours of instruction. Students have 37 days in the first quarter, 38 in the second, 46 in the third, and 48 in the fourth. Staff members have a total of 177 contract days.
Highlights of the 2026-27 calendar include:
- The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
- Homecoming will be Friday, October 9, which is an early release day due to the annual parade.
- A weeklong break for Thanksgiving will run from November 23 to 27.
- A two-week winter holiday will start at the close of the day on December 18, 2025 and continue until students return on January 5, 2026.
- Spring break will again be a week-long event, beginning on Friday, March 26 to Friday, April 2, 2027. The Easter holiday extended break through two weekends.
- Friday, May 27, 2027 has been set as the last day of school; it is an early release day.
A committee of district personnel met in person and corresponded via email to discuss the upcoming school year calendar, including building representatives from the Community Teachers’ Association (CTA) and Central Office. A survey was also sent to all staff members; final survey data was shared with the staff and Board of Education. The Board did a first reading of the calendar during the January meeting. The calendar passed with a 7-0 vote at the February 17, 2026 meeting.
