NHS welcomes 24 new members

March 19, 2026 - On Wednesday, March 18, Mexico High School welcomed 34 new members into its chapter of the National Honor Society during a formal induction ceremony held in Emmons Hall.
Inductee Kaili Cox was thrilled to be selected for NHS. She shared, “I have big plans, and this is a great step toward them.” Likewise, junior Brady Thoenen also looks forward to being added to the group. “NHS is a great organization to be part of. It’s something I’m proud to include on my resume, and it connects you with resources that really help.”
To be eligible for membership, juniors and seniors must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, including a 3.5 GPA in the four core academic areas of English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students who meet these academic requirements are then evaluated by the entire faculty on respect, integrity, cooperation, and courtesy.
Candidates also submit information detailing their leadership roles and service involvement. These ratings, combined with GPA, are compiled into a percentage score. Students must earn an overall score of 85 percent or higher to be admitted into the Mexico chapter. These guidelines ensure consistency with national standards while maintaining the integrity of our local chapter.
Teacher Colleen Galloway sponsors NHS and organizes the annual induction event. “NHS has long been an important organization at Mexico High School. It’s an opportunity to recognize and honor students who display good character, leadership, dedication to service, and excel academically. Faculty and NHS sponsors are glad to honor the hard work and dedication of these students.”
During the ceremony, students were reminded of the four pillars represented in the NHS emblem: scholarship, service, character, and leadership. Each inductee took a pledge to uphold the organization's values before receiving their insignia and signing the official chapter book.
The National Honor Society, established in 1922, recognizes high school students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The MHS chapter was founded in 1925 and continues that tradition by setting high standards for its members.
We congratulate the newest members and their families on this outstanding achievement. Their dedication to academics, service, and leadership strengthens Mexico High School and reflects the very best of our school community.
