JAG students turn the tables at job fair

May 6, 2026 – What happens when students become the ones doing the interviewing… and local business leaders come to them?
That’s exactly what happened recently at Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) at Mexico High School, where students participated in a Reverse Job Fair designed to build confidence, sharpen professional skills, and create meaningful connections with employers in their own community.
Unlike a traditional job fair, where job seekers move from table to table meeting employers, a reverse job fair flips the experience. Students set up professional display tables highlighting their resumes, career interests, accomplishments, skills, and future goals—while representatives from local businesses, organizations, and community partners moved throughout the room, stopping to meet each student individually.
During the event, business leaders asked interview-style questions, evaluated student interactions, and provided valuable feedback on each conversation.
For students, the experience offered far more than interview practice.
From making eye contact and offering a confident handshake to answering thoughtful questions and sharing their personal goals, students had the opportunity to strengthen the soft skills that matter in the workplace. Just as important, they were able to introduce themselves to professionals from across the community—building relationships that could lead to future mentorships, internships, job opportunities, and career connections.
The reverse job fair also gave students a chance to step outside their comfort zones, tell their stories, and showcase the strengths they bring to the table.
Events like this reflect the heart of JAG. preparing students not just for graduation, but for life after high school.
