August 27, 2026 – The first day of school, 170 new Bulldogs walked into McMillan Early Learning Center for kindergarten.

So far, these numbers reflect a slight increase in total enrollment from last year. Unofficially, a first look at Bulldog student enrollment looks like this:

• MELC Kindergarten 170
• Eugene Field 384
• Hawthorne 429
• Mexico Middle 525
• Mexico High 625
• Mexico Education Center 76

We expect the numbers to fluctuate as we continue to add, transfer, and drop students during the first weeks of school.

The district reports official numbers to DESE twice a year.

• The last Wednesday in September serves as the first official count day, providing an early snapshot of the academic year's student enrollment.
• The last Wednesday in January is another official enrollment count, verifying mid-year enrollment.

The biannual enrollment report to DESE determines state funding, district/state accountability, and resource equity.
