Career in Focus: Computer Science

The Computer Science program at Hart Career Center is a fun technical program that provides students with life-long skills to advance in a career field that is in high demand. The courses offered at Hart Career Center give students hands-on experience and critical thinking skills that will help them in the future, throughout their adult lives, and in a variety of career paths.

The students learn basic programming, plus applied programming in video game design, augmented reality, and virtual reality in Unity, an industry-standard game engine. Ms. Harris is also a dual credit teacher for State Technical College of Missouri, so earning dual credit is an option for students.

Ryne Shadbolt, a senior at Fulton High School says, “the class is so unique because of the hands-on experience, creativity, and the self expression you get to show in class.” The students in this program are not afraid to fail, they just try again and again. That's another aspect of this program and class that makes it so special.
Christopher Tutt, another senior at Fulton High School says that “you develop many skills; skills like critical thinking and problem-solving are consistently used throughout each class period.” Both students told me that they enjoy the creativity they get to put into each project, but also the video game design they get to learn in the class. Each student is hard-working and constantly smiling as they try to code or build a game. So, if you wonder how video games are created, and you’re looking for a class to just ease your mind during your busy day, the Computer Science program at Hart Career Center is perfect for you!
